    I have to agree with the self awareness piece where Dr. Ramani says that recovery from the destructive behavior of narcissism is like addiction recovery, in that its every day, every moment, for the rest of your life. As someone diagnosed with BPD and 4 comorbidities plus needing to be evaluated for ADHD/ASD, I can tell you tat if I don't feel like I'm occasionally telling on myself, I'm not being real enough. I have narcissistic tendencies for sure. I've always known I wasn't like "normal" people. Sometimes my ADHD brain thinks really fast through a situation and I'm so frustrated waiting for other people to catch up. I can be an arrogant asshole about it. Then someone more efficient and educated than I am gets frustrated with me, and I have a realization, I stop being such an asshole about that thing, and then the empathy wears off days or weeks later and I do it all over again. It takes lots of rounds of this for me to start changing behavior. Interestingly, I've noticed that when my !other shows a glimmer of empathy towards me, I'm capable of accessing that type of empathy for others more. What is this phenomena and could it be a therapy modality for healing intergenerationally?

    Mayim, just a thought on the sponsor, AirBnB, which seems like a win-win, but really isn't: people should check to see if the place they're visiting has a limit on the number of AirBnBs. Cities that don't limit them (such as the one on the East Coast where I live) see limited housing inventory, skyrocketing rents and purchase prices, which contribute to homelessness. Cities that limit the number of short-term rentals in residential areas are doing what they can to keep year-round residents in their homes and their neighborhoods liveable. And as always, make sure that your AirBnB is registered with the city where you're staying.

    Wow! Eye opening! I find it interesting how I was able to get out of narcissistic relationships without knowing that's what I was doing! I didn't know that I was dealing with a narcissist, but there were obvious behaviors that I wasn't willing to live with. I even left one with two toddlers and only $69 in my pocket. Granted, $69 went a lot farther 50 years ago, but it still wasn't much. And I didn't have a driver's license or high school diploma. Needless to say, I got both and more along the way. My question is how do people inately get out of such situations without realizing that's what they're doing? Mine can't be the only story like that.

    I discovered her years ago and her knowledge changed everything for me in understanding my Step Children’s mother. Understanding that she wasn’t just randomly difficult and high conflict, but that she had a predictable personality style was so clarifying. I slowly was able to stop taking every negative reaction personally and with a lot of self work and the help of a 12 step program I now sponsor and guide women through and out of narcissistic relationships. Her work has helped countless lives. ❤

    I wonder how many covert narcissists end up on here feeling validated as a "victim", not realizing that in all likelihood they're the perpetrator and the " narcissist " is the victim. I've seen a lot of narcissistic people call themselves an empath just because they can feel emotion. Uh, that's not it but thanks for playing...

    • @CherylBerryl
      @CherylBerryl 2 часа назад

      I know it's very hard to leave a narcissist, even if you didn't have a baby, & even more so with. However, I want you to think about the fact that your child is going to also be Brainwashed by your narcissist husband, and will never stand a chance at having a normal upbringing, & that will affect them detrimentally for the rest of their lives. And statistically speaking, they will either become a narcissist themselves, or they will grow up and gravitate a narcissist into their lives as a partner. You may also find that your husband will manipulate your child(ren) emotionally & psychologically into turning against you, hating you, and emotionally abusing you as well. I have a friend who this has happened to. Her now 18 yr old daughter treats her like a piece of sh*t under her shoe. The longer you stay in this marriage, the worse it's going to get. And unfortunately yes, he can still manipulate your child against you, even if you divorce (since he will likely have joint custody of your child) but at least you will have more control over the situation than if you were still under his control 365 day's a year! If you don't have a therapist that specializes in narcissistic abuse, I'd highly suggest you find a different therapist because they won't be able to give you the help that you need! Also check out Lisa A. Romano's channel here on YT, she specializes in helping people that are dealing with narcissistic abuse. I pray that you will get away from this Monster & heal from what he has done to you, & that your child will have a fighting chance at some kind of normal childhood!

No it is more like slavery. I'm the only person who has been consistently there in her life. I got sick of the abuse and starting fighting back. She knows I'm very close to her children so when she'd get mad at me. You can't see the kids. She's 31 now and I swear it's getting much worse. She's leaving her baby daddy. Now she's whining and complaining she doesn't have her own place. She's so selfish right in front of her kids she'll say I'm gonna leave the kids I'll just walk away. I spent untold hours trying to reverse the damage to the children I'm still attached to her but not like I was. I won't allow her to hurt me like she has. She doesn't see anyone else's feelings. And they are too young to properly understand what they are doing so i rly dont think it can be called that. There are certainly unhealthy coping mechanisms! I think especially if you tell your child like your addicted to sucking your thumb like thats just mean and not true so idk maybe fine as a point with parents but not to say to your children
